Inquiring Minds

Ben figured out the other day that he could perch himself high in the grapefruit tree, reach a grapefruit, peel it and have a snack..still in the tree! I think he's been secretly watching that show "Man vs. Wild" or something. Now, if I can only get him to make his own breakfast in the morning!

The other day, I took the kids up to Tarpin Springs to pick out a collection of shells to send to my grandma for her 90th birthday. She grew up in New York City, and never learned much about sea life. So, we sent her a nice bowl with a variety of different Florida shells for her to discover. The kids had a great time picking out the shells. They were told they each had $2 to pick an item for themselves. Luke found his "it" about half-way down the street - a shark grabber device. After which, he came very close to goosing the elderly tourists mingling on the sidewalks many times. We had a picnic lunch by the boats, and then split a greek pastry for dessert. Ben waited until the very last store before selecting something. He of course wanted something that we had seen about 5 stores prior after not finding his prize large shark tooth he wanted. But, he settled for a lobster shaped olive oil soap for this bathroom and some small sharks teeth.

Ben now measures how fun/unfun an even is by telling me whether or not he will do it with his own kids. this trip got the thumbs up for a future trip with his wife and children! Note to other parents..the stores in Tarpin keep the girlie postcards down at the bottom of the card holders. Ben and Luke were ogling for sure!

We picked up some pieces of sponge in Tarpin to make my grandma some ocean paintings with blue, green and white paint. Perfect yard project (see photo). The kids liked painting with the sponge. I got into it too..and may do more of it sometime.
